Halloween….very late!

Here is another project my stamp club members made. It uses the Bigz box die ~ you can adapt it for any holiday. We used it to make Halloween treat boxes.

They were super simple to make using the Big Shot! They use the Gift Givers Stamp set that is in the Holiday Mini Catalog. The box holds 4 Hershey nuggets perfectly.

I am sorry I haven’t been keeping up with my blog lately, but I had my appendix out and then ended up with torticollis after that….so it has been one thing after another. The good news is I am now feeling much better and will start featuring Holiday cards/gifts on my blog starting tomorrow! Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Give Thanks Card ~ It’s A Wrap Holidays

Yesterday I showed a cute little project using the It’s a Wrap Holiday set that is found in the new holiday mini catalog. Today I am going to show you how to use that same set on a card. This is another project my stamp club members made this month.

I just love the colors this card uses ~ More Mustard, Pool Party, Very Vanilla, Pumpkin Pie and Soft Suede. I also used a piece of fabric that is also featured in the mini.

This card shows the versatility of this set, it is not just to wrap chocolates!

The base of the card uses soft suede and I embossed it with the Framed Tulips embossing folder. The layers are Pool Party and More Mustard cardstock. I stamped the Give Thanks stamp on Very Vanilla cardstock using Soft Suede, Pumpkin Pie and Pool Party ink. The strip of fabric features the same colors and is finished off with a brad.

Mini Purses

These little mini purses are great for favors or as a little thank you. I gave them to my stamp club members this month. They loved them and couldn’t be easier to make!

Now I didn’t have matching ribbon for all the colors, so I used the Organza ribbon and colored it with the Stampin Write markers. This is a great technique and the organza ribbon is perfect for it. I colored both sides of the ribbon and it came out very bright and vibrant. You just want to make sure you let it dry before you use them.

For the purses you need to cut a strip of cardstock (or DSP) 5 x 1.5 and then score it at 1.5, 2.5 and 4. After this I ran the pieces in an embossing folder through my big shot. If you want you can then use your corner rounder punch to round out the 2 sides. (I actually found just using my scissors to do it was just as easy since it is so small)

You then use your hole punch to punch 2 holes on the top peak to put your ribbon through. You can then just tape the ribbon ends down to the other side since this part won’t be shown anyway. I used about 4 inches of ribbon for each purse.

I used my piercing tool to pierce a small hole to insert my brad.

Avery labels 5150 fit these little Hershey nuggets perfect but if you don’t have them just cut your paper to 1 x 2 5/8. I stamped the 4 you using the matching inks and then wrapped my nuggets. They slide into the little purse perfectly!

These take no time at all and are just so adorable!

Tomorrow I will post another project using this stamp set~ but it is on a card not chocolate. There are many other great uses for this stamp set and is quickly becoming one of my favorite sets!

Petite Pocket Big Shot Die

I just LOVE this die!! Didn’t think I had to have it until I saw all the awesome and EASY projects made with it. It is going to be one of the featured dies at my September stamp club. Here is a quick project you can make with it. I will have a few more to show using this die….and when you see them I think you’ll agree it is a must add to your collection!! A peek into my corner of the world.....

I don't have a huge scrap space, and am very jealous of those that do. However I think I have made good use out of the small spot I have. Eventually I'd like to have a space big enough to have classes in my own home...hey a girl can dream right?? So without further ado here are a couple of pictures of my little corner of the stamping world.....

Flower Fest

These are the cards my stamp club are making tomorrow night. It is an Embossing 101 class. I just LOVE this stamp set because almost all the images have a matching punch.

For the first card, I embossed the butterflies with white embossing powder. I also embossed the greeting "Thanks". The colors I used were Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzaz. I think they look great together. I also sprayed the butterflies with smooch spray when I was done.

The ribbon is the white organza ribbon SU sells, I just took my Pear Pizzaz marker to match it to the card. Love that technique!

The second card uses the same stamp set. I embossed the flower 3 times and cut out 2 of them to layer it. The petals were cut from the build a bird punch and blossom punch. I inked the edges for some added dimension. For the background I used Rose Red cardstock, ran it through my big shot and inked up the edges a bit again to give it some dimension. I finished it off with the seam binding ribbon that works so well on cards! The sentiment is from the Word Play stamp set and was stamped in the same color ink as the paper.

Blossom Bouquet Triple Punch

I just LOVE this punch. So much "punch" for your money. Here are a few more cards made with this punch. I am sure I will have many more as this has become my favorite go to product! You can get this punch in the new Summer Mini Catalog. It matches perfect with the Bold Blossom set that is only 9.95 for the clear mount set. Very versatile! The punch catalog number is 122464 and is 23.95, and the Bold Blossom Set number is 122232 for the clear mount or 123232 for the wood mount.

A Simple Accordian Fold Album

This Accordion Fold Album is about as simple a project that you can make to show off special photos. We made them for my stamp club last month and they were a hit. The best part is it only takes ONE piece of cardstock, one piece of designer paper and some chipboard. The chipboard I used is the board that comes in the back of the DSP packaging when you purchase it from Stampin Up!

These make a great gift and fit nicely in an envelope to mail. I am working on typing up a tutorial on them to share with you.

Here are some pictures of the album I made for a Mother's Day present.

This is the front cover, the back cover has the same paper.

For the flower I used the Blossom Stamp Set and matching punch. That is fast becoming one of my FAVORITE sets, there is so much you can do with it. I also sprayed the flower with some shimmer glitter, it is hard to see in the picture but it gives it a nice finish.

The album holds 6 pictures on one side and you could even add 4 more on the back if you wanted too. There is also the option of adding more cardstock to add more pictures.

Here is a photo of an unfinshed album. I made it for a girl who couldn't make it to our monthly stamp club meeting. I left it unfinished having only added different colored photo mats so she could add her own pictures and embellishements. You can see how it folds out to make a great display.

May Tool Tip

I was able to purchase a few items from the new summer mini catalog last month, and by far my favorite new toy is the triple layer punch. There are so many uses for this punch and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Here is just one idea for this great punch.

Supplies:

Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch (#122464), 5/16" Neutrals Jumbo Brads (#112534), Melon Mambo Textured Card Stock (#119940), Whisper White card stock (#100730)

Directions:
1.To use a Triple Layer punch, you need to first slide the tab on the bottom of the punch into the 'OPEN' position.
2.One you have unlocked the punch, slide the lever on the back to the image you'd like to punch.
3.It's best to place the punch down flat on a table.
4.Tip your paper up just a bit as you slide it into the punch so that it will fit over the platform inside.
5.You'll hear a different 'click' for each layer that you are punching out. So if you select option 3, you should hear 3 clicks when you are pushing down on the punch.
6.Due to the depth of the punch, when you punch option 3 it will distress the card stock around the punch-out area. If you want to use the negative as a stencil, punch out the image using option 1.
7.When you are done using the punch, slide the lever back to option 3, close the punch and slide the tab on the bottom into the 'LOCK' position.

Simple Elegance

This card uses the Framed Tulips embossing folder for the big shot, Springtime Vintage DSP and seam binding ribbon. All of these items are available in the Occassion Mini Catalog that is good only until the end of April. I do know the embossing folder will be carried over to the new catalog coming in July as well as the ribbon, not sure about the paper, but I hope it is because it is just gorgeous.

This card has no stamping other than the sentiment inside. It is a sympathy card and sometimes less is more. I had planned to stamp the front of the card but after looking at it I felt it was perfect just the way it was. Boring...no...I think it is simply elegant especially given the reason for the card. I find that sometimes less is more. I am sure you will agree!

Product Spotlight: Crystal Effects

Crystal Effects Features, Benefits and Tips

Crystal Effects is one of my favorite tools! It is a water based lacquer that adds depth and texture to your hand stamped projects. Crystal Effects will appear "cloudy" as it is applied but it will dry to a crystal clear sheen. I love it because it will give your project a 3-D look or "raised effect". Whatever area you apply it to will seem to "jump" right off the paper. It has so many great uses! I thought I would share some tips for successfully using Crystal Effects and 25 of the many ways in which you can use it.

CRYSTAL EFFECTS TIPS:

Use and store Crystal Effects at room temperature.
Always store your Crystal Effects upright and NOT laying down on it’s side.
NEVER SHAKE Crystal Effects bottle. This creates air bubbles making application difficult at best.
Prior to use, place the bottle upside down in a coffee cup, allowing any air bubbles to rise to the top. This will minimize bubbles from appearing in your finished project.
When using, try to keep your nozzle down until completely done adding your CE to prevent bubbles from forming.
Apply slowly to alleviate any air bubbles that may occur.
Allow Crystal Effects to dry completely before handling. Thin coats take only a few minutes, but thicker coats may take 30-60 minutes or longer to dry completely. Be careful not to handle your project too soon after using Crystal Effects or you may leave fingerprints in your design!
Do NOT use the heat tool to speed dry time; it will bubble an ruin your project.
Crystal Effects is water based and can cause Stampin’ Up! markers or dye inks to bleed. Carefully apply a THIN layer of Crystal Effects, let dry, then apply a thicker coat. Or, use Watercolor Crayons, Watercolor Pencils or Pastels to color your images before applying Crystal Effects without fear of bleeding colors.
Keep a long hat pin with a ball with your Crystal Effects to use to clear the opening from any clogging.

25 GREAT CRYSTAL EFFECTS USES:

Use as an adhesive for embellishments. It is very strong and dries clear. Especially good for small pieces, heavy pieces, beads, bows, magnets, pin backs, wire or attaching plastic and other non-porous materials to your stamped projects. Be sure to let it dry completely before handling.
Simulate water droplets or dew on flowers and plants by adding little droplets to flower petals or leaves. Also use for raindrops, water puddles or to leaves themselves to appear wet. Mix in a drop or two of Bashful Blue or Marina Mist Classic Ink Refill for a more realistic look.
Use on bubbles to make them appear to be translucent and dimensional on paper.
Add to eyes (punch art or stamped) to give them a glossy, wide-eyed and realistic effect. Also perfect for animal noses.
Use the applicator tip to apply a thicker layer of Crystal Effects to "select elements" of your design to add emphasis. Apply a second or third coat to raise image more, if desired. Great for small leaves, flower petals, centers of flowers, insects, Christmas ornament, teacup, umbrella, etc.
Brush a thin layer of Crystal Effects over the entire focal piece to give your piece a glass-like finish. Add glitter for a glittery glazed look.
Apply to punched circles or Buttons embosslit cuts for faux buttons.
Use crystal effects to glue Designer Series Paper (or a stamped image) to a clear button.
Use Crystal Effects with Dazzling Diamonds or ultra fine glitter to add a pop of sparkle to your project. Great for candle flames, camp fires, etc.
Use as icicles on your winter projects. Apply a strip of Crystal Effects on wax paper and pull down like icicles with a toothpick, then add Dazzling Diamonds.
Add beads, microbeads and Glass Glitter (heavier than regular glitter) to a portion of your project.
Use it to re-glue any stamps that have come unmounted from the foam or wood.
Experiment with different applicators to add textured patterns to your art. For example, the Faux Canvas technique gives a portrait effect to your stamped art. Or random squiggles, shapes or marks drawn on cardstock will give a glossy, watermark look to your background. Swirls with a paintbrush will give another effect.
Use as a glitter glue. Mix Crystal Effects with a small amount of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. You can also custom color them by adding drops of Classic Ink Refill. Mix small amounts or large bottles to keep on hand.
Use to create the illusion of glass when applied over a stamped vase, eyeglasses, windows, drinking glass, pitcher or Christmas light bulb.
Outline your image in a thin line of Crystal Effects for a heat embossed look without the heat.
Paint your pearls! Use a mixture of reinkers and Crystal Effects. Lay them on a piece of wax paper and paint them with the mixture and let dry. Change the color of Hodgepodge Hardware or mini brads, too!
Use to seal and protect your artwork - especially great for 3D paper flowers, multi-layer paper pins or dominoes (when colored with pastels or attaching stamped tissue paper design).
Use as a fray check by applying to the end of your ribbon.
Create Faux Dew Drops by forming 3D dots on wax paper (use reinkers to add color). Let dry, remove from wax paper and adhere to your project.
Coat the top of a brad with Crystal Effects and dip into some fine glitter to create glitter brads. Caution: unlike our Glimmer Brads, the glitter will tend to rub off a bit with these brads. Be sure to shake off excess before allowing to dry. Stick the brad prongs in styrofoam to let the brad dry without messing up the top.
Use Crystal Effects to seal your shrink art pins. This creates dimension and provides a more a great glassy finish.
Use Crystal Effects to seal beaded pens. After you make your pen, stick it into Styrofoam to dry for 24 hours. Then dip the pen upside down into the bottle of crystal effects. Tip right side up and stick back into the Styrofoam to dry for another 24 hours. It seals the pen so that he beads won't fall off.
Use as a household glue to repair items - I used it to glue the bed of my Birkenstock sandal and it's still holding!
Use for techniques like Acetate & Tissue, Sparkly Stain Glass, Snow Globe, Faux Canvas, Photo Altering, Caught in Crystal and so many more!

This set makes a great gift idea for anytime of the year. Stamp sets used are A Great Friend, Just Believe and Eastern Blooms. Great color combination of Basic Grey, Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede. The Designer paper is Elegent Soiree.

The box is made from Basic Grey and has a Vellum cover. It holds 4 3x3 cards with envelopes and 3 Hershey mini nuggets in the middle.

How it works:
The club works on a six-member basis. All six members each agree to spend a minimum of $25 per month for 6 months. Each month the orders from the club members are combined to make a minimum $150 workshop order total. In one of the six months, you will be the "hostess" and receive the hostess benefits for that month based on the club orders (minimum of $150, but it could be more!) You can collect outside orders during your month and increase your hostess benefits even further.

Each month we will get together with other club members where you will have the opportunity to learn more advanced stamping/scrapbooking techniques than you would at a workshop. Each class is between 1½ to 2 hours long, and you will to make 2-3 projects each and every month!. All your project supplies are FREE.

Even if your schedule won’t allow you to make it to the classes or you do not live local, you can still join because you’ll receive all the hostess benefits (over $75 worth), without having to host a workshop! You will also receive the finished projects each month.
